Abstract: »The first Russian erotic novel The Story of the English Lord Gereon and the Brandenburg Margravine Friederike Luise (c. 1747) remained in manuscript form and was never published in full. In the world of Gereon, it is not men who pursue women, but women who actively seek sexual encounters with men, and when the latter resist, they are raped. Lustful women are portrayed as a deadly threat to the protagonist. Gereon is forced to suppress his sexual desires and defend himself against the often aggressive and intrusive advances of women. Behind this is the humoral theory of sexual physiology, which posits that male libido is finite and must be preserved, unlike female libido, which is seen as inexhaustible. The erotic and pornographic episodes contribute to an erotic narrative about the value of male sex, modulated by a traditional medieval plot about marital fidelity.« (Source: Porn Studies)
